Local Man Settles Claim for Accident Injuries for over £32,000

Published: 16th March 2017

A Wakefield man was hit by a speeding car whilst crossing the road on his way home from work. The force of the collision fractured his hip, meaning that he needed surgery and spent over a week in hospital. When he was finally allowed home, he was forced to use a zimmer frame to move about, until he eventually recovered enough to start walking again. As a result of his injuries, he was told by his doctors that he would be unable to return to work for at least a year.

Whilst recovering from his injuries he contacted Liddy’s Solicitors to take on his claim against the driver of the speeding car. Liddy’s took the case on a no-win-no-fee basis, meaning that the client had to pay nothing at all if his claim did not succeed.

Liddy’s contacted the Police and obtained all the details of the accident and the driver involved. A claim was sent to the driver’s insurance company, who initially refused to admit fault for the accident. Also the insurers suggested that the claimant was also to blame for the accident as he had been wearing dark coloured clothing and had therefore been difficult to see. After Liddy’s issued court proceedings the defendants admitted full responsibility for the accident.

As our client was not able to work and was in financial difficulties, Liddy’s to obtained an advance payment of damages of £8000 from the insurers, whilst they continued to gather evidence on the overall value of his claim. Shortly after this, the insurers offered to settle the claim for £27,000, but Liddy’s advised against accepting this. Settlement was agreed at £32,245.

The above case is just one example of how Liddy’s Solicitors have helped injured people get back on their feet by getting them the compensation that they are legally entitled to.
