Solicitors Rally to Help Warn of Small Claims Court Issues

A recent news report from APIL details a press campaign aided by APIL members that has helped to highlight in regional newspapers the Government’s proposals to raise the small claims court limit for some personal injury claims.

Many members agreed to have their name put to a letter warning of the profound effects the Government’s proposals would have on access to justice.

“Insurance companies persuaded the Government to introduce these plans by claiming costs would reduce and savings would be passed on to motorists through lower premiums. Unsurprisingly, insurers have refused to give the Government any commitment on how they will come down or when,” it reads.

“These changes will create a totally uneven playing field, weighed heavily in favour of big business. People with genuine injuries will struggle to find justice while insurance premiums remain sky high.”

The letters were printed in newspapers across the country, including those in Bristol, Newcastle, Birmingham, East Anglia and Staffordshire, reaching a circulation of more than 370,000. This success could not have been achieved without the invaluable assistance of APIL members.
