A machine operator suffered some serious hand injuries while working. His employers had disabled the guards on the cutting machine that he was using and as a result his hand was broken and he got several deep lacerations. He was off work for three months due to his injuries, but was paid by his employers during this time. Upon his return to work, he found the job very difficult due to his injuries and so was put on light duties.

Liddy’s Solicitors took on his claim on a No-Win-No-Fee basis. Our first step was to register his claim with his employer’s insurers.  The insurance company admitted fault early on in the process. Liddy’s then organised rehabilitation treatment for him which was paid for by the insurance company. With the help of this treatment he found his symptoms quickly improved. At the same time Liddy’s arranged an MRI scan of his injured hand and had him seen by a hand surgeon. The surgeon advised that his injuries and scars were expected to improve over the next twelve months.

The defendant’s insurers put forward an offer of £15,000 even before the medical evidence was presented. Upon considering the hand surgeon’s opinion, Liddy’s advised him that the offer was considerably more than what he would normally expect for injuries and losses of this type. He was happy to accept the offer of £15,000, which included compensation for his injury, private treatment costs and other miscellaneous losses.
