Injured in workplace which delivers newspapers and magazines to newsagents

Published: 1st February 2021

We recently acted for a client who was at his place of work, walking to his workplace, when his foot entered a strapping on the floor surface which caused him to twist and fall forwards and as a result, he sustained injuries to his back, elbow, knee, ankle and foot.

The Defendant’s premises are open 24 hours a day. There was a long-running problem with the condition of the floor surface and the build-up of rubbish. This had been reported to our client’s employers. The strapping which injured our client was used to secure large bundles of newspapers and had become loose and left on the floor.

A claim was made to the Defendant insurance company on the grounds that they failed to provide him with a safe place of work and failed to provide him with a safe means of access, and for failing to keep the floor surface in a reasonably clean condition. Following the submission of the claim, the Defendant insurance company admitted liability for our client’s accident.

Our client received £6,750 for his injuries.

This case shows the variety of personal injury claims that can arise.
