Failure of NHS to recognise harm done by pelvic mesh surgery

Published: 14th July 2020

A damning review just published reveals hundreds of women whose lives were ruined by a failure of the NHS to recognise the harm done by pelvic mesh surgery.

Wednesday 8 July saw the publishing of a report on complications caused by vaginal mesh repairs.

Baroness Cumberledge, who chaired the review, describes in her review women who were dismissed has just having “women’s problems” and had been failed by an “unresponsive and defensive” healthcare system.

The report calls for an apology and for the setting up of specialist centres to treat patients whose lives have been affected. Liddy’s Solicitors supports the recommendations in the report and commends the women who came forward to tell their story. However, in some cases, the effect of the complications has been life-changing and we feel that victims should also be entitled to compensation for the harm done.
