Avoidable fall in hospital – patient received £3,000 damages

Published: 4th September 2019

We acted for the family of patient of Pinderfields Hospital.

She was admitted suffering from confusion, poor mobility, and breathlessness. She should have been assessed as having a high risk of falls and steps should have been taken by the Hospital to minimise that risk.

Falls in Hospital are a very common problem and so all Hospitals have planned steps that they take where there is a high risk of falls to try and avoid the fall occurring. Her fall was made all the more likely because she had wounds on her leg which were not treated and had become infected over the first 9 days of her hospital treatment.

Damages were agreed at £3,000.00.
