Injection negligence claim settled for £425,000

Published: 24th November 2021

We acted for a claimant who was given an injection by a nurse to reduce the chances of his bowel cancer returning. The claimant says that during and after the injection, there was a lot of blood  and that the nurse had negligently injected the serum into his blood supply, and that this had caused the later tuberculosis infection.

The first that the claimant knew of the infection was when his kidneys stopped working properly.  The infection in fact spread to his heart, liver, kidneys, spine and skin. He was left with pain on walking, and a reduced life expectancy.

The hospital denied that the injection they gave was negligent and they defended the claim. The case was eventually settled for £425,000.
