Patient suffers tissue damage from chemotherapy injection, received £60,000 damages

Published: 6th November 2019

We acted for the widow of a patient at Pinderfields Hospital.

He was having chemotherapy. There is always a small risk that the chemical bursts out of the vein in which it is injected, seeping into the surrounding tissue. This is what happened on this occasion, but the Hospital failed to inject him with the antidote and as a result, he suffered extensive tissue damage to his arm.

Liability was denied but eventually, the case settled for damages of £60,000.00
